This is the proposal for a dream installation that can describe to the client the full potentials of using lightweight materials and construction techniques on a large scale.
The work is for two installations, one in the Tate Modern and one to be in an example of a modular atrium installation.
The Tate Mordern installation is designed to act like a giant hanging mobile; Large elements hang from the ceiling from off centre pivbots and cantiliver over the mezzanine. The structure is slim and graceful, as it arches down to barely touching distance at both ends.
As visitors come into the turbine hall in the East entrance they are welcomed by giant floating structures, with no visible structure to give away its suspended nature. It appears as if it is floating, as it moves slowly across the space with the current of air flow from thew air conditioning units.
The tension experienced at the ends of the structure is immense; the graceful and enormous object fills the space and is overpowering yet graceful and calm.
The second installation is an exploration into flock intelligence and the movement of objects in a swarm. The different formations the elements will be arranged in can portray different qualities such as team work, strength, grace, focus and beauty.
